For successful competition with the world’s leading manufacturers of launch vehicles, domestic manufacturers need to develop and manufacture a new generation of launch vehicles that will have a lower launch cost, but the same high reliability and quality coefficient (and even more) as the commercially available Soyuz-2 series launch vehicles. Currently, such projects are the development of advanced medium-class launch vehicles «Soyuz-5», «Soyuz-6» and «Soyuz-7». Engineers and scientists are implementing new design, technological and scientific-technical solutions in these launch vehicles. Some of these new design and technological solutions have been introduced into the design of the thermal-protective coating of the tail section of the first stage of the launch vehicle of a new generation.
The paper presents the components of the developed design of the thermal-protective coating of the tail section of the I stage of the new-generation medium-class launch vehicle and the design of the thermal-protective coating of the tail section of the I stage of the mass-produced Soyuz-2 series launch vehicles, the main materials, the main design differences, advantages and disadvantages of the designs. In addition, a comparative analysis of the design of the thermal-protective coating of the tail section of the first stage of a new-generation medium-class launch vehicle and mass-produced Soyuz-2 series launch vehicles is presented in tabular form. The developed design of the thermal-protective coating of the tail compartment has a lower mass compared to the designs of commercially available Soyuz-2 series launch vehicles (by 200 kg), has a shortened production cycle and lower financial costs for its manufacture. It is important to note that the developed design practically does not lead to the retrofitting of the manufacturer of the thermal-protective coating. The main direction of further use of the results of the work is the development of recommendations and proposals for the design of the thermal-protective coating of the tail compartment of a promising superheavy-class launch vehicle «Yenisei».
